You can search a specific Share CFD, or you can browse the entire offering in our Symbols List. One you know the company name or ticker you want to trade just double click to subscribe and the instrument will appear in the Dealing Rates window.

What are the costs of FXCM Shares trading

What are the costs of trading?

When trading Share CFDs with FXCM, trading costs are included in the spread and there are no extra commission fees charged when opening or closing positions and unlike many other brokers there are no minimum commission levels, so at FXCM you are able to avoid the extra costs of placing smaller trades.

The spread costs can easily be calculated on the Trading Station platform, as you can see the real-time spreads and pip costs (in your account denomination) before you enter any trade. To calculate the spread cost in the currency of your account:

(Pip Cost) x (Number of Contracts) x (Spread) = Total Transaction Cost

Can I hold my FXCM account positions long term

Can I hold my positions long term?

As long as there is sufficient margin in your account, you can hold your position indefinitely.

Any positions held past the closing time of a stock exchange may be subject to a "financing charge" which reflects in an FXCM account as "rollover." The financing adjustment will take place on the account after the close of the relevant stock exchange. Visit our CFD Product guide for more information.

How much capital do I need to start trading Share CFD's?

Trading share CFDs with FXCM allows you to use only a fraction of the capital. For Retail clients, approximately 20:1 leverage is available for individual equities. If you open a position worth $100, approximately $5 margin would be required. Margin requirements for each share are updated once daily and can be viewed in the Trading Station platform.

How does fractional share work?

FXCM's minimum trade sizes is the value of one-tenth of an actual share: entering a size of "1" on the FXCM platform will place a trade size the equivalent of 0.1 Shares.

Please note that HK Shares can only be traded in increments of 1 Share.

How are dividends paid out?

Dividend adjustments will apply on the eve of the ex-dividend date of the underlying stock. The adjustment will appear on your statement. Long Positions will be credited an adjustment and Short Positions will be debited.

Do FXCM apply taxes to clients trading share CFDs?

There are no taxes applied by FXCM when you open and close a CFD position.

However, as per the US tax code, a withholding tax applies on dividend adjustments to traders of equity derivatives of US stocks. In accordance with FXCM's obligation under these US tax rules, 30% of all credited Dividend adjustments on SSCFDs or Stock Baskets are withheld and passed on by FXCM to the IRS.²

How are Corporate Actions handled?

With the exception of Dividends and Stock Splits. FXCM do not process most corporate actions. In the event of any corporate action, FXCM shall determine in accordance with market practice the appropriate adjustment, if any, to be made to the current contract value or contract quantity of any open positions in order to preserve the economic equivalent of your position or to reflect the effect of the event on the relevant underlying share.
